The Full Story

Industry in Schools

Industry in School Leadership Institutes are based on a series of place-based workshops piloted in 2020-22 that aligned classroom instruction across multiple disciplines with regional career pathways. The concept has grown to focus on the 16 Career Clusters as described by the NC Department of Public Instruction and adopted by our 29 regional school districts and 9 community colleges. Each institute is designed by cluster content experts and hosted by regional community colleges. The institutes include visits with industry partners, experiences with pathway content and skills, and opportunities to build engaging instruction that provides students a window into regional employment. They are built on a common teaching framework supporting each pathway that leverages emerging content, technology, and skills. Throughout the year, we plan to extend institutes to include teacher and student externships and internships as well as real-world research opportunities that align with regional career opportunities providing an intentional bridge to employment.
